Steadfast Love
I attended a service at another church where Psalm 136 was read responsively. This psalm calls on worshipers to praise God for who he is, praise him for his great works of creation, and praise him for what he has done on behalf of his people Israel. There are 26 verses and each verse ends with the refrain for his steadfast love endures forever.
What is Truth?
In John chapter 18 Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested. He is sent to the former high priest Annas, then to the current high priest Caiaphas. Eventually Jesus is sent to the Roman governor Pilate. Pilate at first tells the Jews to take Jesus away and judge him by their law, but the Jews are determined that Jesus be put to death and only Pilate has the authority to do that.
Faithful Unto Death
A common saying I hear today when someone has been going through an extended period of distress is, “They deserve some happiness.” The implication is, based on how bad things have been, it’s time for some easy living. The idea that we deserve some happiness is a gross misunderstanding of our true situation.
Redefining Our Terms
Truth seems to be in short supply these days. I think many would agree with that statement, but, in order to agree (or disagree), one must understand what I mean by truth. When I speak of truth I’m speaking of something that is objective.

Biblical Fluency
A few years ago I attended a local theology conference. As one who is called to teach God’s Word, the speaker made a statement that really resonated with me. The speaker said it is time for the church to move from biblical literacy to biblical fluency. My first thought was “Absolutely, it is way past time!” However, my second thought was “Have we even reached the level of biblical literacy?”
